This policy explains what personal information Grape Hammock Fish Camp collects when you use alligatorcountry.com, why we collect it, who else can receive it, and the choices you have. It also lists every cookie and piece of outside content on the site, and how to switch them on or off at any time.
We have written this in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email chandley@grapehammock.com and we will explain it.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you use the contact form on our Contact Us page, we collect your name, your email address and your message. Form messages are emailed to us, and the site keeps a copy so we can find and answer them. If you email or call us, we collect what you choose to tell us.
Bookings are made with FareHarbor, not on this site. When you press Book Now, your booking and payment are handled by FareHarbor, the company that runs our booking system (see section 4). We do not see or store your card details.
Information about how the site is used, only if you agree. With your agreement, three tools record how visitors use the site: the pages you view, where you came from, the type of device and browser you use, and your approximate location worked out from your IP address. They are Google Analytics, Usermaven, and Independent Analytics, a visit counter that runs on our own website and keeps a scrambled code in place of your IP address, not the address itself. None of them runs until you agree.
Information the site collects on its own. Like most websites, ours is hosted on a server that keeps a standard log of the internet addresses that connect to it, for security. That information stays with us and our hosting provider. It is not used to identify visitors.
2. Why we use it
- To answer your questions and to help with the tour or visit you ask about.
- To understand, if you agree, which pages visitors find useful, so we can improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and to stop spam and abuse.
- To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.
3. Consent, and how we handle outside content
Nothing that measures your visit, and nothing from an outside company that can set cookies for that purpose, loads until you agree. When you first arrive, a banner asks for your choices. Until you make them, Google Analytics, Usermaven and our own visit counter are switched off; the Google map on our Contact Us page and the YouTube video in one of our blog posts are replaced with a placeholder and a button; and FareHarbor’s pop-up booking window is not loaded, so Book Now takes you straight to FareHarbor’s booking page instead. This applies to every visitor, wherever you are.
You can change your mind at any time. A Manage cookies button sits in the bottom-left corner of every page once you have made a choice. Open it to turn categories on or off, or to withdraw consent entirely. Withdrawing is exactly as easy as giving it.
We keep a record of your choice. When you decide, we store the date and time, which categories you agreed to, which version of this policy was in force, and the page you were on. That record is tied to a random reference generated in your browser. It contains no name, no email address and no IP address, and we cannot use it to work out who you are. We keep it so we can show, if we are ever asked, that consent was properly obtained.
Your choice is remembered in a cookie called gi_consent for 12 months, after which we ask again. Clearing your browser cookies clears it too, and the banner will reappear.
4. Who else can receive it
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
These companies can receive information about your visit, and only if you agree:
- Google Analytics (Google) receives the pages you view, how you arrived and your IP address, and sets its own cookies, so we can see how the site is used.
- Usermaven receives the pages you view and the links and buttons you click, so we can see how the site is used. In the way this site uses it, Usermaven sets no cookies.
- FareHarbor, our booking provider, for the pop-up booking window. If you agree, FareHarbor’s window is prepared in the background on each page, and FareHarbor runs its own analytics in it, including its own Google Analytics.
- Google, for the embedded Google map on our Contact Us page and the YouTube video in one of our blog posts. If you agree, Google receives your IP address and the page you are on. The YouTube player sets its own cookies as soon as it loads, before you press play, and contacts Google’s advertising network.
These companies receive information whether or not you agree, because they provide part of how the site works:
- Google reCAPTCHA protects our contact form from spam. To tell a person from a spam program it runs on every page, receives your IP address and some information about your browser and how you use the page, and sets a cookie. It is used for security.
- Trustindex shows our Google reviews on the home page. Your browser collects the review display from Trustindex and the reviewers’ profile photos from Google, which receive your IP address to send them.
- Google Fonts and FareHarbor supply the typefaces and the booking-button styling the site is shown in. To send them, they receive your IP address and the address of the page. Neither sets a cookie when doing so.
When you book. Pressing Book Now takes you to FareHarbor, which handles your booking and payment under its own privacy policy and sets its own cookies and analytics on its booking pages. FareHarbor passes your booking details to us so we can run your tour.
Separately, we use trusted suppliers who handle information strictly on our behalf and on our instructions: our website host, our email provider and the company that maintains our website. They are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. We can tell you who they are on request.
We may also disclose information where the law requires or permits it, or to establish or defend our legal rights.
5. How long we keep it
- Contact-form messages and emails: for as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of any tour or visit you arrange with us.
- Visit statistics: kept by each tool under its own settings. Our own visit counter holds no names, email addresses or IP addresses.
- Consent records: at least 24 months from the date of the decision.
6. Your choices and your rights
Whether or not any particular privacy law applies to a business our size, we will honor these requests from anyone who asks. You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you through the website, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
- delete information we no longer have a good reason to keep;
- stop contacting you.
Email chandley@grapehammock.com. We will respond within 45 days, at no charge. We may need to confirm who you are first. In limited cases the law allows us to keep information, for example records we must hold for tax purposes, and if that happens we will tell you why.
You can also change your cookie choices at any time with the Manage cookies button, and control cookies through your browser settings (see Part 2).
7. How we protect it
The site runs over an encrypted connection, access to our systems is limited to people who need it, and we take all reasonable precautions against loss, misuse and unauthorized access. No website can promise perfect security, and if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you promptly.
8. Children
Our site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through the site. If you believe a child has given us information through the site, email us and we will delete it.
9. Other websites
Our site links to other websites, including our Facebook, Instagram and Tripadvisor pages and FareHarbor’s booking pages, that this policy does not cover. Once you leave our site this policy stops applying and we are not responsible for how those sites handle your information. We suggest you read their privacy statements.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your information, or adds a tracker of any kind, we will ask for your cookie choices again rather than relying on consent you gave to an older version.

Part 2 — Cookies and similar technologies
What these are
A cookie is a small file stored on your device when you visit a website. Other technologies do the same job: tracking pixels, which are invisible images that report back that a page was loaded; scripts that store data in your browser; and embedded content such as maps and videos that set their own cookies the moment they load. Where this policy says “cookies”, it means all of these.
The three categories
The banner groups everything into three categories. The first is always on, because the site cannot work without it. The other two are off until you turn them on.
Strictly necessary — always on
Needed for the site to work, to keep it secure, and to remember your cookie choice. These are not used for tracking or advertising and cannot be switched off.

We run no advertising trackers on this site. This category covers outside content that would otherwise load, and set cookies, as soon as a page opens.

Changing your choices
Use the Manage cookies button at the bottom-left of any page. The change takes effect immediately.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings, which let you block cookies, delete the ones already stored, or warn you before one is set. Remember that browser settings apply to every site you visit, not only ours, and that blocking the strictly necessary cookies will stop our site remembering your choice.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We hold every tool that measures your visit, and all outside content that can set cookies for that purpose, back until you agree, so every visitor starts out opted out by default. That applies whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.
